Drug and Alcohol Detox Procedures

In the state of Utah there are a very few licensed Drug and Alcohol Detox centers. If fact many in the state will travel as far as southern Nevada to Las Vegas to find an experienced and licensed Drug Detox facility.  Detoxification is twofold, in that drug detox is both a medical and physiological process.

Medically, it is the removal of toxic or addictive substances from the body, and this initial process is commonly known as the withdrawal period that also encompasses the need for therapy to address the physiological dependence on an addictive substance and the accompanying behavior and destructive life style.

There are typically three steps to the drug detox process:

Evaluation: Determining the type of drug used and frequency of use.

Stabilization: Guiding the resident through the process of detoxification.

Treatment: Getting the resident ready both physically and emotionally for residential treatment.

At Lion’s Gate Recovery we believe that the Drug Detox process is a highly specialized field of medicine that should only be accomplished at a licensed and highly experienced facility.  At the time of the initial evaluation and prior to admittance to Lion’s Gate the determination will be made by our therapist if the resident will need to Detox.

If it is decided that Detox is required we will make recommendations as to which specific Drug Detox facility the resident should attend.

The Drug and or Alcohol Detox process has many factors to consider such as the residents; age, type of drug used, frequency of use, genetic predisposition to addiction, their physical conditioning, and their emotional and physiological state of mind. No Drug Detox is the same for every person, and just as every person is unique so may be their detox requirements and the length of stay needed at the Drug Detox Facility.
